The Daily Commute: A glance at life on the streets of Beijing

Greetings from Beijing…wish you were here!

Photo taken on the streets of central Beijing, China in early November.

There was a chill in the mid-morning air as the 20 million citizens of Beijing, China’s capital, commuted to work.  The unforgivable smog had yet to lift and uncover this ancient city of the Middle Kingdom.

There were bicycles, three-wheeled tin box cars, grimy yellow taxicabs, polluting trucks, electric bikes, motorcycles, and pedestrians alike, fighting for the road and trying to survive.  For this is the daily grind and the way of life in one of the world’s most populous countries.
