It had just rained. A quick, tropical downpour. Then the sun burst through the clouds and the entire island was brilliantly bright. In the midst of winter, I sure miss the beauty and color of an island flower.

Photo taken in Punta Gorda, a Garifuna community located on the island of Roatan, Honduras. The Garifunas were brought to Roatan from the St.Vincent and Africa as slaves of the British colonists. Today the Garifunas have a rich culture and heritage and make the island a magical place.
