Above is the view after reaching Nepal’s Thorung La pass, the highest point at 17,770 feet (5,416 meters) in elevation on the Annapurna hiking circuit which I did four years ago. It is also the site of one of the worst avalanches in Nepal’s history killing dozens of trekkers and porters. It is heartbreaking. This week’s photo challenge is Home. Perhaps the most interesting home I’ve ever seen during my travels was that of a 95-year-old monk in the Himalayas of Nepal. Here at over 14,000 feet lives the “cave monk” of Manang. He has lived here and given blessings to those who seek them for many years. Here is his home built into the rocks… View inside his home…. View looking outside from his home down to the village of Manang…. To see […]

Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us, and the world will be as one. -John Lennon I couldn’t think of a more fitting photo that honors peace than this one above. It was taken while hiking in Nepal and the white from the fresh coat of snow and the glittering prayer flags both symbolize peace. What kind of world will we […]
I stepped out of the quiet walls of my hotel and into the delights, noise and chaos of the streets of Kathmandu. Anything your heart desired could be found or made for you here along Thamel’s tourist mecca.
Before I start with my entries for each color, I wanted to post one of my most favorite colorful pictures in my collection: The boats of Pokhara. After completely half of the Annapurna Trek in Nepal, we came upon lovely, picturesque Pokhara, perhaps the most beautiful towns in all of Nepal. There I saw these brightly colored boats in Pokhara Lake with the nightly Himalayas reflecting off the waters. It took my breath away. “Capture the Colours”: Blue I […]

After trekking for weeks in the Himalayas we finally came down to a small village where I found this young woman hunched over her loom making handwoven wool scarves. I bought a beautiful wool scarf for US$2 and felt sad. What a way to make a living.
I was working on a post for Jakesprinter’s Sunday post titled “Sunrise” and took a second look at these photos I’d taken at three different times during the same day just after a fresh coat of snow. I thought they were so lovely I had to share. Sunrise Mid-day Late afternoon
