I captured this photo as I was descending the steep, slippery trail of the Santa Maria Volcano near Xela, Guatemala. I had risen at 4 am to climb this beast and was stunned to find a group of 30 or so Mayans on top of the volcano chanting and praying. Greetings from Antigua….wish you were here! Photo taken in Antigua, Guatemala of local Mayan women doing their wash in town. They came as the sun begins to light up the water and warm up their hands. They carry all their clothing on their backs, scrub and wash it in the water, then place the wet clothing back inside the plastic bags to carry home. Gretings from Guatemala’s Highlands…wish you were here! Photo taken right outside my Spanish school in Xela, Guatemala. I met Maria, a local Mayan woman, my second day in Xela. She came to Casa Xelaju Spanish School and set up shop right outside the door, in the lovely alleyway between the school and two traditional homes.
