Above photos taken in Beijing, China last November. My visit to the spectacular Forbidden City was a huge disappointment due to the intense, insane pollution. Not only was the view of the Forbidden City forbidden and wrong, what the smog is doing to the people of China and around the world is deeply disturbing. (Note: I’m not picking on China. I realize we are also highly to blame as are many other countries in this world). This post is in […]
Photo taken in Beijing, China. I had heard about the mysterious, hidden hutongs, or narrow alleyways, that wind like a serpentine throughout old Beijing. Some are very hard to find and once your inside, its like stepping back in time into an ancient hidden world. It is easy to get lost inside the hutongs as well. I love this shot into an old, small hutong which shows how many people still live in China.
This week’s WordPress photo challenge is movement. Trying to capture any sort of movement on film has always proved difficult for me. Usually the photos I attempt to take during movement end up so bad that I delete them. However, these three photos during my recent trip to China captured the true essence of movement in the amazingly overpopulated city of Beijing. The first is taken inside a moving taxi cab as we entered “ghost street” and the second two […]
Every building of importance in China bears a lion to protect its inhabitants. Generally the male lion is found at the east and the female lion is found at the west. Here is the lioness with her cub beneath her foot. Photo taken inside the Forbidden Palace, Beijing, China.
Greetings from Beijing…wish you were here! Photo taken in November 2011 at the Lama Temple, Beijing. I look back at my photos from China – all 800 of them – and am so disappointed. They are all so covered in smoggy pollution that the locals said was fog (?) that none of them turned out too well. So I’ve taken it upon myself to try to fix them somewhat and play with the colors. Here is my attempt at the […]
Greetings from China…wish you were here! Photo taken of Forbidden City in Beijing, China in November 2011. I jokingly made this title because the Forbidden City was forbidden in that it was completely covered in some serious smog. All my pictures during my stay in China have this thick, gray coat around them. It is so disappointing to look back at the photos yet I’ve been saved by playing around with them in Photoshop. Yes, the brilliant hues of […]
For this week’s WordPress Photo Challenge, Together, I came up with three favorites: Together: Man and Wild Photo taken on safari in Tanda Tula Private Reserve, South Africa. Together: Animal and Bridge Photo taken in rural Nepal along Annapurna trek. Together: Live scorpions and cook. Photo taken in Beijing, China at Street Market. These babies are fried live on a stick and eaten with vigor.

Greetings from Beijing….wish you were here! Photo taken in the Hutong section of Beijing China in November 2011. I adored Beijing’s hutongs, or old alleyways. The hutongs represent the old China and the way the city used to be thousands of years ago. Hutgongs are a little bit hard to find which was half the pleasure of seeing them. We found this one hutong that was a little gem as it lead to restaurants, bars and shops. There were rows […]
Greetings from Beijing…wish you were here! Photo taken at moat surrounding the Forbidden City in Beijing, China November 2011. Just like the sky, the water in China was equally unsettling and gray. We never saw a clear day the entire time we were there. The pollution seemed to strangle the city out of life. At least there was no garbage in the rivers and streams like I saw in India and Nepal. I found this photo pretty regardless of the […]
