Greetings from Iceland..wish you were here! Photo above taken in the town of Vik, Iceland. Perhaps one of the reasons why I love Iceland so much is its fabulous, serene nature and its relative lack of people. After being in China, Iceland seems like heaven. There is nothing but empty space and you can drive forever through peaceful villages like this one in the picture above. It doesn’t take long to get out of the city and into the countryside. […]
Greetings from Iceland…wish you were here! Photo taken in August 2008 at the Myrdalsjökull Glacier. I took this picture during my first ever ice walk on a glacier. I always wanted to try it. During a week long trip to Iceland, I couldn’t think of a better place to give ice-trekking a whirl. I signed up for a full-day excursion and was not the least bit disappointed. The weather was icy cold and frozen drops of rain fell over our […]
Greetings from South Africa…wish you were here! Photo taken in Cape Town, South Africa in November 2005. I’ve been thinking a lot about South Africa lately. Perhaps it is because I follow a few South African bloggers (you know who you are!) that I adore. Or else it is because this was the first big trip I took after becoming a mother. I was hesitant to start a family. I was 32 and married for four years yet didn’t want […]
Greetings from Shanghai…wish you were here! Photo taken in Shanghai, China in early November 2011. The Chinese have some of the most creative methods of transportation (whether it be people or goods) that I’ve ever seen. I was fascinated by how much the Chinese could place on the back of a bike. I saw everything from produce to presents and loved capturing the shops on wheels.
Greetings from Morocco…wish you were here! Photo taken in April 2010 in Rabat, Morocco. I stayed at a Riad or ancient Moroccan palace turned into a hotel, in the heart of Rabat’s souq. Finding the Riad was half the fun as I wandered somewhat aimlessly through narrow, serpentine alleyways like the one pictured above. I felt like I had been transported back in time, to a world long ago. I was fascinated by the life and culture of Morocco and […]
Greetings from Iceland…wish you were here! Photo taken along the southwest coast of Iceland heading towards Vik. I saw these hay bales and thought that it was an ingenious idea to cover them in plastic to keep them dry from all the rain that makes Iceland so green. They even used green plastic to match the environment! Ah how I wish for this kind of tranquility!
Greetings from San Carlos de Bariloche…wish you were here! Photo taken in November 2007 trip to San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina. I will always love Argentina. It has it all—wine, food, mountains, sea and fabulous culture. If I wasn’t so curious about seeing new places, I would continually return to Argentina. San Carlos de Bariloche is part of the Argentine Lakes District. It is the start of Patagonia yet the true Patagonia lies in the south. I love them both, […]
Goodbye Tucson…wish I was there! Photo taken as the sun was setting my last night in Tucson, Arizona. For the last eighteen years, I have gone to Tucson. It now feels like a second home. I love the mountains and the unique beauty and tranquility of the desert. The air is so peaceful and so still. I love to listen to the birds sing each morning and watch the sun rise and set. I will miss you Tucson but I […]
Greetings from Beijing…wish you were here! Photo taken in central Beijing in November 2011. At night, like most cities, Beijing comes to life. The once gray, smoggy capital of China becomes a vibrant city full of life. The buildings are full of color and light and the street vendors are out selling the evening dinner. It is a place to marvel for the contrast between old and new, day and night, is so great.
