Greetings from the Annapurna Trek…wish you were here!
Photo taken just after crossing the highest point of the Annapurna Trek, Thorung La, in Nepal. November 2010.
We slept poorly at the rustic tea house before the darning Thorung La pass. It was freezing cold and we wore everything we had underneath two yak-hair blankets. So cold that it was hard to even get up to use the restroom. At 3 am we rose, ate in silence and began our ascent into the darkness following the splish splash of headlamps and the jingles of the mule trains, until we reached the top of the pass at 6:30 am, just as the sun began to rise. We had an awful long way down. Five more hours of knee breaking work. So hard I could hardly walk the last hour. But we made it. This picture show the arduous task in front of us.
Wow!! Stunning!
Thanks! We had to hike all the way down to the brown stuff! 5,000 more feet of knee breaking pain! But if my 69 year old dad could do it, so could I!
Amazing hike!
I’ve been there, but this photo is fantastic!
Thanks! Were you also doing a trek?
You talk about nothing but the pain and the cold, Nicole, and yet you wish we were there? 🙂
I would be there in a heartbeat!!!! I LOVE this kind of stuff!!!!
I know you do, Nicole! Was just joshing you honey:)
Thanks! 🙂 He he
P.S. If you haven’t gathered I’ve got a lot of energy to dispense! Hiking suits me well!
Yes, I got the picture. Hiking, canoeing, running – it’s great. Just take care of those knees:)
