Greetings from South Africa…wish you were here!
Photo taken in Cape Town, South Africa in November 2005.
I’ve been thinking a lot about South Africa lately. Perhaps it is because I follow a few South African bloggers (you know who you are!) that I adore. Or else it is because this was the first big trip I took after becoming a mother.
I was hesitant to start a family. I was 32 and married for four years yet didn’t want to give up my passion for traveling and seeing the world. Whenever the topic about starting a family began, I kept telling my husband, “Just one more trip!” He knew me well, and thankfully understood my wanderlust personality.
It took a few tragic life changing events to change my mind. Then the unexpected happened. I was laid off from my job. It seemed like there was no better time than the present to start a family (of course after a trip to Australia). Luck was on my side and I got pregnant right away and had my son nine months later.
After a terrible bout of postpartum depression, I never thought I’d travel again. But a year later, just as my son was taking his first steps, I boarded a plane to South Africa and spent ten wonderful days relishing in my joy of travel.
I have been lucky to travel ever since! And it just goes to show, never give up on your dreams and passions in life!
