Traveling through Norway’s Fjords

Greetings from Norway…wish you were here!

Photo above taken during a cruise to Norway’s fjordland in 1993.

One of the highlights of my six-week backpacking trip through Europe in the ’90s was a visit to Bergen, Norway, the launching off point to the spectacular Norwegian Fjords (part of UNESCO’s World Heritage List).  Bergen is located between the longest fjord Sognefijord to the north and Hardangerfjord in the south, offering the traveler a multitude of options for exploring this incredible, stunning scenery.

I took a cruise up the fjords, got dumped off for two hours in the midst of this incredible scenery with no town, no people, nothing except nature at its finest.  I hiked around for an hour, marveling at the beauty of this place and then caught the boat back to Bergen.

    • Wonderful! I bet you are going to have an amazing time! Believe it or not, this photo was taken in 1993!!! Can you believe it? I was 21 and studying abroad in France and really wanted to see Norway. I took the train all by myself and went as far north as possible. It was amazing but I can only imagine what it must be like now. I had a cheap camera and was so young. Good luck and have an amazing time! 🙂 I bet you will take a ton of pictures!
